The Tiperyn Realm Defence (Tipsprek: π„πŒΉπ€πƒπŒ»πŒ°πŒ½πƒπŒΊ π‚πŒΎπŒΊ πŒ³πŒ΄π†πŒΉπŒ½π‡, tr. Tipslansk Ryk Definch; Goidelic: Cosaint RΓochta Tiprain) is the federal and duchy armed forces of the Holy Realm of Tiperyn tasked with the defense of the Tiperyn homeland and its overseas territories against national security threats and natural disasters.

Organization[edit | edit source]

Command structure[edit | edit source]

Rather than a unified command structure, the Tiperyn Realm Defence consists of a number of branch-level commands who convene to form consensus within the Defence Council.

Branches[edit | edit source]

Realm Guard[edit | edit source]

Realm Armada[edit | edit source]

See more: Realm Armada

The Realm Armada (Tipsprek: Rykseemakt) is the naval warfare branch of the Realm Defence and is arguably the Tiperyn armed forces' primary naval, air and land expeditionary branch.

The Realm Armada consists of four arms:

  • High Seas Fleet: (Tipsprek: Heechseefloat): The primary naval warfare arm of the Realm Armada, accounting for the majority of its blue-water and green-water warships. It is comprised of 159 warships and 77 patrol boats. This complement includes non-nuclear aircraft carriers, amphibious warfare ships, destroyers and various other warships. The fleet's two Adrian-class non-nuclear supercarriers - the TNV Adrian and TNV Michael - serve as its flagships and command the Balearic Sea Division and Eurybian Sea Division of the Realm Armada respectively. The Tethys Ocean Division and Iapetus Ocean Division are headed by the Matthew-class amphibious assault ships the TNV Mathew and TNV Luke respectively.
  • Fleet Auxiliary (Tipsprek: Floathelptiid): The support, sealift and replenishment force of the Realm Armada. The Fleet Auxiliary includes hospital ships, minelayers, icebreakers, tenders, cargo ships, tug boats and other ships that support the mission of other arms. Additionally, the Fleet Auxiliary's complement of approximately 160 patrol boats serves as the Realm Armada's "green" and "brown water navy" division within Tiperyn waters.
  • Fleet Air Service (Tipsprek: Floatluktmacht): The naval air force component of the Realm Armada with approximately 1,550 aircraft in service. Of these, 1,350 aircraft act either as combat or support aircraft in direct support of the High Seas Fleet with an additional 200 aircraft attached to the Fleet Auxiliary. The Armada Air Service is considered the premiere expeditionary air branch within the Tiperyn Realm Defence and its aircraft make up the majority of Tiperyn air power abroad. Additionally, its large fleet of helicopters is integral in supporting the mission of the Fleet Expeditionary specifically.
  • Fleet Expeditionary: The naval infantry component of the Realm Armada with approximately 270,000 active-duty and 179,000 reserve-duty personnel. The Fleet Expeditionary is considered to be the primary expeditionary land fighting force of the Tiperyn Realm Defence and has its own complement of tanks, amphibious infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers and artillery.

Unlike the Realm Guard and Crown Vigilance Corps, the Realm Armada is commanded entirely at the federal level by the Admiralty Board (Tipsprek: Admiraliteitbefel).

Realm Air Service[edit | edit source]

The Realm Air Service (Tipsprek: Rykluktmacht) is the air warfare branch of the Realm Defence.

Holy Guard[edit | edit source]

The Holy Guard (Tipsprek: Hillikeskyld) is a paramilitary organization organized under the auspices of the First Apostolic Church, administered by the Ministry of Values and loyal to the Supreme Governor of the First Apostolic Church and Empress of the Holy Tiperyn Realm.

The force's direct predecessor was the Empress' Own which was founded in 1390 by Empress Artemia in response to the Dukes' Rebellion (1389-1393). The conflict saw the revolt of Tiperyn's northern and central duchies that had been defeated and dominated by the Grand Duchy of Tipslan - the seat of the Tiperyn Realm and the House of Highal. The organization played a key part in quelling the rebellion, and has since been seen as the right hand of the royal family. When the Holy Tiperyn Realm was formed in 1405 with the merging of the First Apostolic Church and the House of Highal, the Empress' Own was reorganized as the Holy Guard with its sole allegiance being the head of state who also served as the head of the church. In modern times, the Holy Guard considers itself to be a check on the largely decentralized Realm Guard which is perceived to have stronger loyalties with lower nobility outside of the House of Highal than the nation as a whole.

With approximately 1,043,444 personnel, it is the largest paramilitary organization in Tiperyn and has a large presence throughout the state. The majority of Holy Guardsmen are conscripts. During peacetime, the Holy Guard serves the function of religious police, enforcing the First Apostolic Church's strict canon and protecting churches and holy sites within Tiperyn. During wartime or when martial law is declared, the Holy Guard may be mobilized into an irregular military force.

Under current Holy Guard doctrine, the organization has 3 primary roles:

  • Suppress civil rebellion or attempts to overthrow the authority of the First Apostolic Church,
  • Protect property of the First Apostolic Church and Grand House of Highal,
  • Defend the home island of Tiperyn against the threat of foreign invasion.

The Ministry of Values estimates that it is readily able to mobilize approximately 200,000 guardsmen for this purpose within a week and an additional 200,000 after a month. However, these forces are largely not mechanized and operate outside of standard military supply chains. Out of approximately 20 divisions that remain active in peacetime, only 2 are fully mechanized and 3 are partially mechanized. The Holy Guard lacks the ability to mechanize the remainder of its approximately 90-division sized force. Thus, the Holy Guard has a limited ability to conduct mobile warfare.

In the case of invasion, Holy Guard units would be tasked with guarding static fortifications and conducting guerrilla warfare in territory occupied by the enemy. The Holy Guard's mechanized components take advantage of decentralize basing, with many of its infantry fighting vehicles and casemate tanks being stored in fortified positions under the cover of forests or in Tiperyn's mountainous regions to limit the effectiveness of enemy air power. Additionally, it is suspected by other powers' intelligence agencies that the Holy Guard mans tunnel systems throughout Tiperyn - especially in the nation's taiga and mountain ranges as a final line of defense.

There have been limited cases of Holy Guard operations outside of Tiperyn's borders. The last case of this was in the 1950s in Naseristan during the Kesh Wars. During this time, the 2nd Holy Guard District - a division-sized formation that included the guard units from the capital city of Ambrosia - was deployed to the area to secure holy sites occupied by the regular military and to begin a crackdown on the practice of Islam in "Christian" districts.

In addition to their military role, the 1st "Keizerinne" Guards Regiment serves as the personal bodyguard of the Empress and the House of Highal and guards the Ryk Kastiel (English: Realm Castle) in Ambrosia. The 4th "Hillige Eustace" Guards Regiment safeguards the Ambrosia Basilica - the largest church in Tiperyn and the de facto seat of the First Apostolic Church - and the Council of Cardinals - the Empress' ordained minister cabinet.

Realm Vigilance Corps[edit | edit source]

The Realm Vigilance Corps (Tipsprek: Rykwachtsyenkorps) is a gendarmerie organization and serves as the only federal police organization in Tiperyn.

Low-intensity operations[edit | edit source]

Location Began Details
Naseristan 1956 Operation Citadel: The Tiperyn Realm Defence has maintained a presence in Naseristan since the late 19th century. Tiperyn fought against the Caliphate in Naseristan during The Grand Campaigns from 1920 to 1925 and Shia nationalists during the Kesh Wars from 1949 and 1956. The Naseri Civil War began in 1956 in opposition to Arab and Tiperyn leadership in Naseristan. Tiperyn has maintained a permanent military presence in Naseristan ever since and currently deploys 35,000 personnel within the state.

Permanent overseas postings[edit | edit source]

Location Began Details
Eureka 1809 Tiperyn Forces Eureka: As an overseas territory of Tiperyn, the Realm Viceroyalty of Eureka currently houses 9,000 to 12,000 active duty personnel of the Realm Armada - nominally from the High Seas Fleet and Marine Corps. These personnel are garrisoned in Naval Air Station Eureka and are tasked with protecting the town of Point Eureka, small research settlements throughout Eureka and patrolling the strait between it and southern Kaya.
Kaya 1990 Tiperyn Forces Kaya: Kaya remains one of Tiperyn's closest overseas allies as one of the founding members of the North-South Concordant. Tiperyn operates a naval base in the southern Kayan province of Kaya which includes a Fleet Expeditionary battalion, drydocks and subpens that service the Iapetus and Tethys Ocean Divisions. This station serves the purpose of providing a forward replenishment point for Tiperyn's submarine force, providing support to the territory of Eureka and monitoring Brigantican activities in the South Iapetus.
Agrana y Griegro 2002 Tiperyn Forces Agrana y Griegro: As part of Agrana y Griegro's entry into the North-South Concordant, the Realm Guard and Realm Armada established a joint Tiperyn Realm Defence base in southern Agrana y Griegro due to its proximity to hotspots in Kesh and its access to the Eurybian Sea. The 5th Tipslan Rifleer Regiment is currently garrisoned in Agrana y Griegro, and is commanded by Prince Arke of Tipslan - spouse of the Crown Princess and heir apparent of Agrana y Griegro. Additionally, the Realm Armada operates dry docks in the nation to serve as repair and replenishment points for its Eurybian forces.
Thesparos 2002 Tiperyn Forces Thesparos: There is currently one mechanized marine battalion (1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment) and one armored marine battalion (3rd battalion, 4th Marine Regiment) stationed in Thesparos. This was done to reinforce Tiperyn's commitment to defending the sovereignty of its allies as well as to serve as a quick reaction force to respond to threats in the Eurybian Sea area.
